Cookie Guidelines
What are cookies?
A cookie is the term given to describe a type of message
that is given to a Web browser by a Web server which is then stored on the computer of the
user. The main purpose of a cookie is to identify users and possibly
prepare customized Web pages or to save site login information for you when
regularly visiting certain pages. (eg. online shops)
What data protection regulations apply for cookies?
When
cookies collect information about users such as: e-mail address, user name, IP-address
or similar, then the owner of the website must adhere to the data protection
laws. In addition the cookies must comply to the data protection regulations of
the Telecommunications Act ( § 96 para 3 TKG ).

Session
Cookies are
cookies that are saved after a certain amount of time. They are
automatically deleted when the user closes the browser.
Persistent Cookies remain on the user's computer/device for a pre-defined
period of time before being deleted.
First Party Cookies are cookies which are set by the web
server of the visited page and share the same domain
Third
Party Cookies stored by a different domain to the visited
page's domain. This can happen when the webpage references a
file, such as JavaScript, located outside its domain. This involves a
sharing of information between servers which allows a website to be
personalized according to its users.

- Social plug-ins for e.g. Facebook (third party cookies)
